I like 'em Hairy

Truth: I love a hairy man. Whether in real life or in my books. Now my real life husband (is that bad I need to identify my husband as my "real life") has the perfect amount of scruffiness about him. Don't get me wrong, when we first got married he was a bare faced man with lots of potential but nine years later he has perfected the look. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the amount of chest hair he has. Am I sharing too much? LOL. He won't read this so there is no worry. Anyway, there is something about a man with hair that makes him - oh so masculine. Examples:

Since he was on Party of Five, Matthew Fox has always had the perfect amount of facial hair. I may not like his character on Lost, but he is my favorite actor in the hair department. Must be hard to keep his stubble that perfect when stranded on a desert island.

As I was reading Branded by Fire last night, Riley was described as having afternoon stubble. I knew I loved Nalini Singh for a reason. Then I started looking at my current book covers to see what kind of facial hair they have. By far, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Darkhunter series has the best facial hair of any of the books I own. Stryker wouldn't be such the bad ass that he is without that stubble. Must admit the blue eyes help a bit too:)

For perfect chest hair in real life, the honor goes to John Hamm of Mad Men. (Yes, I am obsessed with this show)

Photobucket

That is some nice chest hair, and you know there is a very defined happy trail under those pj bottoms.

BTW - that picture is from www.squarehippies.com a site with all of your favorite people with no shirts on!! It has become one of my favorite sites. It even has the "adorkable of the month" an actor that is kind of dorky but kind of cute without his shirt on. Plus, all the pictures are safe for work.

I then turned to my books to see what kind of chest hair I could find on a book cover. Let me tell you, I own a lot of books, but only one had truly defined chest hair:

That is some smexy chest hair. Let's face it, he is a hot guy anyway, but that sprinkling of chest hair just makes him so much more of a man. He definitely would have lost a man card if he had a waxed chest under that jacket. Another truth: Although I have all of her books, I have yet to read this series. This is now going in the top of my tbr, especially after Katiebabs said Demon Forged is her favorite book of 2009 so far!

Heck, I even like men named Harry

Oh, you know Prince Harry is a naughty boy. Give him a few years and he will have stubble on his face too.

So what is the consensus? Do you like a hairy man? Can you think of any heroes from romance books that are described with a hairy chest? (It is harder than you think!)

Scruff on a man is oh so sexy. I used to pant whenever I would see a picture of Bush's front man, Gavin Rossdale (Gwen Stefani's husband) because he wore scruff, very, very well.

Mandi said...

Gavin Rossdale is one fine man.

I have to agree with you Mandi. The clean-shaven look is nice, but I like a bit of scruff, a bit of tousled sexiness on a man. Makes him look so touchable. And after seeing scads of waxed chests, it's hot to see a guy with chest hair. Not the gorilla, covering-his-back hairy, but just enough to a trail down south...

And isn't Prince Harry turning into quite the hottie? I'm liking him better than Wills these days.

Lori Foster usually writes about heroes with chest hair. There's just something so much more masculine about them, makes me get all shivery. Yum LOL.

Mandi said...

Stacy - Yes, hairy, but not on the back..is that too much to ask for? :) I haven't read Lori Foster...will have to check her out.

Mandi, I laughed my a$$ of with this post!! I love the 6 o’clock shadow on a man's face, makes the bad boy image all the more real, even the goatee isn't bad...I love the way my hubby look’s with one (TMI I know :D) but in our world BDB-er V is also known for it.

I don't mind the men to be hairless on the chest but I love them more with the Y shaped chest hair. Now to actually sum up a few characters with facial and chest hair? Nothing comes to mind *headdesk*

Mandi said...

Leontine - I know..it is hard to remember characters from books. Vishous..yes, he is one of my favs:)

For me it depends on the man, I like the clean-shaven look, but a certain type of man just looks better if they are a bit rugged. More sexy!

This reminds me of the man I once saw on the beach, he had so much hair on his back, I wish I had so much hair on my head! Needless to say that the hairy-back-man was a big turn-off!

Mandi said...

Marissa - lol..there are always such interesting people to see at the beach:) Hairy backs=unsmexy

OMG your post is so funny exactly what I needed this afternoon!

I love hair on my man...... yes my real one has alot, his friends joke that he has to brush it, its not that bad!

But facial hair on a guy makes him seems so much more of a guy I think makes him seem more manly

Blodeuedd said...

I do love a bit of scruff, it gives that rough edge that just makes me go wild.
And yes a real man has hair on his chest

Mandi said...

Amanda - You lucky girl!! ;) I'm definitely in a silly mood today.

Mandi said...

Blodeuedd - Makes you go wild,eh? ;)

Amanda said...

LMAO Mandi I'll tell him you said that!

Or on second thoughts maybe not.... he'll be wnating to know what i've been up to!

Mandi said...

Amanda - lol..tell him..it will boost his ego;)

My husband read this before he went to work. He just shook his head and then said Price Harry looks like a dork. LOL.

When their is no hair then it's a girl without breasts!!!

Finally!! Women who share my love of the scruff!!!

I have always liked hair on a man - body hair, chest hair, facial hair (minimum back hair, please). I can even dig a bald man with a great chest area *visions of Vin Diesel in Babylon AD floating through head*.

I think my first *WOW* moment was Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing - right before he morphed into the werewolf. All that long black hair and that chest hair with the happy trail.......a thing of beauty. LOL

Mandi said...

Susi - LMAO..unless it is this guy - he has bigger man boobies than most girls - http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n63/n315470.jpg

Michele - I could definitely go for a baldy as long as it is made up in other places..:) Scruff is good:)

Wendy said...

Gruffy is definitely sexy, but there's a limit. I do not appreciate back hair, thankyouverymuch. LOL

SusiSunshine said...

Ick,ick!!!Disgusting.

SarahT said...

A bit of hair is sexy. A veritable is not. Thank you for making me laugh!

Amy C said...

I, umm, like clean shaven on my husband. I like that right after smooth feel when he rubs his cheek along mine...it's melt worthy. Men on tv, some I like to look at with the scruffy but I must be sensitive because it just hurts when it rubs the wrong way :).

I like hair on the chest but I also like no hair.

My husband has a fair amount of hair, so I don't really have much choice but to like hairy! :)

No, I can't recall any heroes that have hairy chests. I don't think its a physical characteristic I ever think to remember.

Fun post, Mandi!

Mandi said...

Wendy - I agree!

Susi - Gasp! ;)

Amy - LOL..that is true..we don't have much choice:)

I LOVE scruff on a man. Yummy. Scruff lends an air of bamf-ness to a man. And I really have the hots for bamfs.I don't have a preference when it comes to chest hair...as long as the chest is nicely sculpted. No puny men for me. I like 'em big. Over 6' and built like a brawler. There is something to be said for curling up to a guy with a nice chest pelt. It gives you something interesting to play with during snuggling and something to pull when they're acting like jerks...but I have to give the guys with no chest hair some credit too. I have a taste for the exotic...you know? The American Indians, the Gypsies, etc. They definitely don't need chest hair to add to their masculinity. They can come and kidnap me ANYTIME they want.

Ladybug said...

I giggled my way through this great post, Mandi. Real life husband? I wonder if you have many fantasy(or online?) husbands? LOL.

Oh, Matthew Fox is SO SO SMEXY!

How about George with a three day beard? He's a hottie. And I mustn't forget Sean Connery, he could be my grandfather but he is still smexy with beard. Sean also has some chest hair, what do you think?

Here'one of the Norwegian WRC drivers and I think he looks pretty good with a little facial hair.

I was unfamiliar with the word scruff.. when I look it up the dictionary says: the back of the neck. But you guys use it as a word for facial hair/stubble? If I'm not totally mistaken. Help, English lessons wanted LOL.

Ups... sorry I'm babbling.

Penny Watson said...

Hi Mandi! I LOVE this post! I have a teeny, tiny obsession with beards (okay, so every hero I write has a nice beard...I can't help myself!)- my critique partners totally make fun of me. I like to write about werewolves (hairy), Santa Claus and his 5 sons (of course, all with beards), etc. I was shocked to learn some women find men's facial hair a turn-off...what could be more masculine than a nice scruffy beard? Have you seen Eric Bana in Troy? Google that and I guarantee you will faint with happiness.

Aymless said...

Hairy is good as long as manscaping isn't required to find what's under all that furry stuff.

Monroe Dawson said...

LMAO...You are TOO dang funny! Well in books I dont MIND facial hair as long as its not like a beard! But like the not shaved in 2 days look...love it! My hubby has a hairy chest! lol AND hes a redhead! lol Hes my first man Ive been with that had hair like that...and I married him...nuff said! lol

Obsidian Bookshelf said...

Great post! The Meljean Brooke cover is very sexy. I'm not so sure about Prince Harry, though. I'm afraid I've got to agree with Mandi's husband: Prince Harry does look a bit like a dork. I don't see him ever getting any serious chest hair with his eyebrows being that pale!

heidenkind said...

I heart facial hair. And scruff is definitely sexy if done right. I even wrote an entire post about how I love mustaches last week. Why don't more men have mustaches? For real. :)

Mandi said...

Tia - LMAO @ "There is something to be said for curling up to a guy with a nice chest pelt. " You crack me up!!!!!

Ladybug - I have many fantasy boyfriends LOL. Whoohoo, you are a Matthew Fox fan too!! Love the links..verra smexy facial hair.

Penny - Oh..Eric Bana in Troy is to die for!!! I am really looking forward to this santa and sons series you have coming out! I want a release date! :)

Aymless - no, please no manscaping:)

Monroe - redhead?? I may come steal him;)

Obsidian - Prince Harry just looks like he is trouble. In my fantasy world, trouble is good:)

Heidenkind - I totally forgot to put a pic of Brandon Flowers with his mustache..oh well!

Kristie (J) said...

I love a guy with a bit of scruff on his face - and on his chest. Just a bit mind you - not too much.

And what Stacy says about Harry. It used to be William who was the better looking prince but it's all about Harry now! And he's a bad boy to boot - a bad boy prince. If I wasn't old enough to be his mum I'd say yummers!

Jill D. said...

LOL! This was a funny post :) I admit, I like hair on a man too. I like it on the chest and not so much on the face. My husband one time grew a mustach and I HATED it! He loved like a 70s porn star - Yuck!

Monroe Dawson said...

Mandi-
Girl come get him! lol But you gotta feed him oh and no give backs! ;op

Oh I love my men with a stubble. Its really attractive. What I don't like is beard that looks like Jesus's and its so long that it has its own personality.

Love this post!

Tia said...

Well there IS something to be said about it Mandi! It's cozy and smells nice (if it doesn't I think you should be messing with a different type of man). I like a little hair on the belly too. (wink)

Laughing my azz off with this post!!!! After a few saki bombs for sushi happy hour, it is hard for me to think of smexy hairy chest characters. I tease my husband all the time about his (red) Hasselhoff-esk chest, (whisper) secretly I find it sexy. Hands down the smexiest scruffy guy is Chris Pines, star treck hottie. They try and cover his stubble, but you'll catch a real time glimpse and he'll be scruffy. The baby face Zac Efrons can suck it!

As always love your post!

Mandi said...

Kristie - Yes, first Wills but now Harry. Naughty, naughty Harry.

Jill - only Brandon Flowers of The Killers is allowed to rock the 'stache. :)

Monroe - I already have three dudes to feed..I think you can keep him..LOL.

I heart Book Gossip = LOL. No, please no Jesus beards. Let's keep it short. :)

Tia - I do enjoy a nice smelling chest..LOL.

Eleni - Maybe one day I will let my husband shave it clean...maybe.:)

Lea - I even like Harry from Sex and the City who was bald..LOL.

Linda Ellen - The comments are what are so enjoying!

Kristin - First of all, we named our dog Saki due to our love of saki and sushi...now I am suddenly craving it:) Chris Pines = hot. Zac Efron=little girl.

Missy said...

Hehehe I was tickled to find your post on hairiness! Just yesterday at work a guy came in and was so hairy I was completely fixated on it. (I work at a construction equipment company, so you know what kind of men I see!) anyway, I just couldn't stop looking, then after he left, I couldn't stop thinking about him. Wow. My husband is hairy, but not overly so. I am going to check out that website you mentioned. Great post...I am laughing this morning!

Mandi said...

Missy - lol..I wonder if that guy gets that reaction wherever he goes:)

Tia said...

I'm not sure if Zac Efron can even GROW stubble...I must point out the Rolling Stone magazine cover that he did...um even without the scruffiness he could still get it. I do love Chris Pine though. Yummmm. And Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, Jason Stattham, and Harrison Ford even tho he could be my grandfather. Seeeexxxxxaaaaay.

I'm a little late, but WOW! Who knew so many liked scruffy? Scruffy faces gives guys the bad boy feel, so yeah I like scruffy too. Buuuuttt, I like a smooth muscular chest also, a few tats on that chest makes it all the better.

Awesome post Mandi, love a man with stubble and chest hair (as long as it doesn't look like a coat)
Draw the line at back hair, definite turn-off for me lol

The perfect book for you is coming out in October. It's called Hairy Hunks: A Celebration of Shaggy Stallions. Oh, yeah.
